Lou & Lutza Smith Endowed Scholarship

PURPOSE: To provide need and merit based scholarships to fulltime undergraduate and graduate students who are pursuing an equine-related career through a major or minor course of study in Animal and Nutritional Sciences, or the Applied Animal Sciences Program within the Thompson School of the University. CRITERIA: Demonstrate sincere interest in working within the horse industry, such as teaching equitation, breeding, training, equine agribusiness, equine research, equine veterinary practice. In addition to direct scholarship aid, a portion of these funds may be used to grant undergraduate research fellowships which typically provide a stipend for the recipient and a small project budget. SELECTION: Chair of the Department of Animal and Nutritional Sciences (or successor department) based on recommendations from the departmental awards committee.
