Richard Bruce Johnston Scholarship

PURPOSE: Renewable merit-based scholarship support for undergraduate students enrollwed in the Department of Natural and Environmental Resources in COLSA who are majoring in forestry. CRITERIA: Upperclassmen with GPA of 2.0+ (but GPA not as important as the students’ enthusiasm for the forestry field). Recipients should display some of the characteristics of and principles held by Richard Johnson; love, dedication and ambition in his career, honesty and sincerity. Recipients can be a transfer student from a two-year technical program identifiable through their interest for the forestry field. ADMIN: A portion of the income available may be used for the purchase of books for a particular oustanding forestry major. The committee will determine book award amounts. Majority of the income to be used for scholarship support. SELECTION COMMITTEE: Richard B. Johnston Memorial Award Committee shall be composed of (1) two faculty members from the forestry faculty of the Department of Natural and Environmental Resources appointed by the Chair of DNER (2) one other person, prefereably from outside UNH who is in a career field related to forestry or the environment and a former associate or friend of Richard Johnston and appointed bi-annually by Mrs. Richard Johnston or int he event aht mrs. Johnston cannot make the appointment, a friend from outside UNH with special interest in students and appointed by the Chair of DNER. The committee shall meet during the fall semester to select a recipient and administer the award.
